Please check with your vet to ensure Praziquantel is advised and safe for your chickens. A typical chicken weighs less than 4 kg (8lbs), so please administer half of one tablet per bird. There is enough treatment here to treat two large-breed birds twice. Treat each bird again after 10 days and watch their poops for results. Praziquantel causes the tapeworm to become paralyzed and let go of the intestine wall. Collect any wormy poops for prompt disposal. The tablets are palatable so the birds will commonly just eat them straight down, if you are struggling to get a bird to eat the half tablet you can wrap it in something meaty, grind the half tablet between 2 spoons and add to damp mash or simply sit the chicken on your knee and feed it from your hand. If all else fails just open the beak and pop it in. Praziquantel is not approved for treating tapeworm in chickens but may be advised by your vet in cases of tapeworm infestation. You are strongly advised to not sell or eat the eggs from chickens treated with praziquantel while they are undergoing treatment. The half-life of Praziquantel is less than 2 hours in healthy cats and humans (half of the drug has been removed by the body after only 2 hours) and it works so well because it is poorly absorbed and remains in the gut where it paralyzes the tapeworm. If you are unsure, check with your vet.
